The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System is used for the classification of active ingredients of drugs according to the organ or system on which they act and their therapeutic, pharmacological and chemical properties.

ATC code D: Dermatologicals is a section of the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System, a system of alphanumeric codes developed by the WHO for the classification of drugs and other medical products.

Dexa-Neo is a pharmaceutical product that contains the active substances dexamethasone sodium phosphate and neomycin sulphate. Dexamethasone sodium phosphate is a synthetic glucocorticoid, analogue of natural glucocorticoids, with strong anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activity. Neomycin sulphate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, with a bactericidal activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms.

Dexa-Neo is used:

  • as a short-term treatment in inflammatory skin diseases that respond to steroids, where is also required a prophylactic treatment with antibiotics, only after the exclusion of the viral and fungal diseases; it has also a local action as anti-pruritic and vasoconstrictor although the mechanism of action of the corticosteroids is not yet very clear;
  • for the treatment of skin diseases, when there isasecondaryinfection like eczema,psoriasis, dermatitis, neurodermatitis, contactsensitivityreactions;

for the treatment of secondary infections by insect bites as well as for the treatment of anogenital pruritus.

Flumethasone pivalate, one of the active substances of Fluoderma cream, is a moderately potent glucocorticoid, which is used topically. It has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, vasoconstrictor.and antiproliferative activity. In inflammatory skin diseases of different types and origins, flumethasone pivalate provides a rapid relief and eliminates symptoms such as itching. Multiple effects that provide corticosteroids are related with a complex molecular mechanism, where binding with specific cytoplasmic receptors plays an important role.

Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which is active against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It may cause sensitization more easily than other antibiotics, when it is used locally.

Fluoderma is indicated in initial treatment of inflammatory skin diseases of different types and localization, which respond to corticosteroids and where a secondary infection caused by organisms susceptible to neomycin sulphate appears, such as seborrheic eczema, contact eczema, atopic dermatitis (in patients of all ages), localized neurodermatitis, intertrigo, superficial pyoderma (e.g. impetigo) and insect bites associated with secondary infections.

Genta is a pharmaceutical product which contains the active substance gentamicin sulphate. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, more active against aerobic gram-negative bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli, Proteus, Klebsiella, Serratia, Enterobacter and Citrobacter. Gentamicin is inactive against anaerobic bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Genta cream is used in skin infections caused by bacteria sensitive to gentamicin such as: pyoderma with different spreading and gravity, folliculitis, furunculosis, microbial eczema. It is also used in secondary skin infections such as: dermatitis, eczema, ulcers, traumatic lesions, burns and infected wounds. Other skin infections that can be treated with Genta cream are acne and psoriasis pustulosa, integroid form.

Adrenaline is an endogenous substance that is produced in the adrenal medulla and has important physiological effects. It is a potent agonist at both alpha and beta adrenoceptors, although the effect on beta adrenoceptors is more marked, particularly at lower doses.

 The major effects of adrenaline are dose-related and include:

dilatation of the bronchi, narrowing of blood vessels, increased heart rate and contractility (positive chronotropic and inotropic effect) and stimulation at central level. Adrenaline is a histamine antagonist. It is used for the treatment of life emergencies.

Adrenaline is used in acute allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock.

It is also used in advanced cardiac life support.
