The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System is used for the classification of active ingredients of drugs according to the organ or system on which they act and their therapeutic, pharmacological and chemical properties.

ATC code C: Cardiovascular system is a section of the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System, a system of alphanumeric codes developed by the WHO for the classification of drugs and other medical products.

Lisidigal HCT is a combination of lisinopril with hydrochlorothiazide. Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, which lowers blood pressure and relaxes the smooth muscle of the heart. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic which stimulates urination.

Lisidigal HCT is used:

  • for the treament of high blood pressure without any known causes (essential hypertension) in patients whose blood pressure cannot be adequately reduced with lisinopril alone (or hydrochlorothiazide alone).

Tablets - 20 mg + 12.5 mg

Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Angiotensin II is a chemical in your blood that tightens your blood vessels. Losartan blocks this effect causing the blood vessels to relax and so lowers your blood pressure.

Losartan is indicated:

  • for the treatment of hypertension;
  • for the treatment of heart failure in combination with diuretics and/or digitalis medicine;
  • for the prevention of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy;
  • in the treatment of renal disease in hypertensive, type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria, as part of their antihypertensive treatment.

Metoprolol belongs to a group of drugs called cardioselective beta-blockers. It reduces cardiac contraction and decreases the heart rate.

Metoprolol is used in:

  • management of arterial hypertension;
  • angina pectoris;
  • cardiac arrhythmias;
  • myocardial infarction;
  • adjuvant treatment in hyperthyroidism;
  • migraine prophylaxis.

Tablets - 40 mg

Tablets - 5 mg

Nebiol contains the active substance nebivolol hydrochloride, which is a cardioselective beta-blocker (i.e. with a selective action on the cardiovascular system).

It exerts a dilating action on blood vessels, which contributes to lower blood pressure.

It also prevents increased heart rate and controls heart pumping strength.

Nebiol is indicated for the treatment of:

  • essential hypertension (high blood pressure);

stable mild or moderate heart failure in addition to standard therapies in patients aged 70 years or over.

Tablets - 20 mg

Nifedipine is a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker.

It inhibits the calcium ions flow through the cellular membrane. Nifedipine decreases the myocardial oxygen demand. It is a peripheral and coronary vasodilator, but, unlike the other calcium-channel blockers verapamil or diltiazem, has little or no effect on cardiac conduction and negative inotropic activity is rarely seen at therapeutic doses.

Nifedipine has no antiarrhythmic activity.

It widens the main coronary arteries and coronary arterioles, both in normal region but also in ischemic ones and is a strong inhibitor to their spasms. It lowers blood pressure at rest and at a certain level of stress. This is realized by widening peripheral arterioles and reducing total peripheral resistance.

Nifedipine 10 mg sugar-coated tablet is used in:

  • angina;
  • Raynaud's disease;

Nifedipine sugar-coated tablets can increase the risk of serious heart problems in patients with hypertension or angina. Hence, Nifedipine sugar-coated tablets are only used in these patients if no other treatments are appropriate.

Nitrosorbit contains the active substance isosorbide dinitrate. The basic pharmacological effect of isosorbide dinitrate, as all organic nitrates, is relaxing vascular smooth muscles as a result of intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate production inducement. Arterioles relaxation reduces systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure.

Nitrosorbit 10 mg tablets are indicated in:

  • prophylaxis and treatment of angina pectoris;
  • left ventricular failure.

Adrenaline is an endogenous substance that is produced in the adrenal medulla and has important physiological effects. It is a potent agonist at both alpha and beta adrenoceptors, although the effect on beta adrenoceptors is more marked, particularly at lower doses.

 The major effects of adrenaline are dose-related and include:

dilatation of the bronchi, narrowing of blood vessels, increased heart rate and contractility (positive chronotropic and inotropic effect) and stimulation at central level. Adrenaline is a histamine antagonist. It is used for the treatment of life emergencies.

Adrenaline is used in acute allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock.

It is also used in advanced cardiac life support.
