The Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System is used for the classification of active ingredients of drugs according to the organ or system on which they act and their therapeutic, pharmacological and chemical properties.

ATC code C: Cardiovascular system is a section of the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System, a system of alphanumeric codes developed by the WHO for the classification of drugs and other medical products.

Siprolip is a drug used to reduce high blood lipids (cholesterol) from the class of cholesterol synthesis enzyme inhibitor. The active substance of Siprolip, simvastatin, reduces cholesterol production in the liver. For simvastatin has been shown that in patients at high risk for coronary heart disease, it reduces the risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.

Siprolip is used:

in addition of a diet in:

  • patients with hypercholesterolemia(primaryor mixed hyperlipidemia) when diet andother measures such asphysical training orweight lossalone are not sufficient;
  • patientswith homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, along with other treatmentsorif suchare not suitable;
  • for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases:
  • in patients whosecholesterol levelsin the bloodarenormal or elevated,with establishedatherosclerotic cardiovasculardisease ordiabetes, along with other preventive measures.

Veprol contains the active substance verapamil hydrochloride.

Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker. The mechanism of action consists in inhibiting the entrance of calcium into the cell. Verapamil acts in smooth muscle, myocardial cells, and cells within the sino-atrial and atrioventricular nodes. The main actions of the calcium-channel blockers include dilation of coronary and peripheral arteries and arterioles. Verapamil causes slowing of atrioventricular conduction, reduction of heart rate and a negative inotropic action.

Verapamil is used in the treatment of:

  • supraventricular arrhythmias;
  • angina pectoris;
  • hypertension.

Adrenaline is an endogenous substance that is produced in the adrenal medulla and has important physiological effects. It is a potent agonist at both alpha and beta adrenoceptors, although the effect on beta adrenoceptors is more marked, particularly at lower doses.

 The major effects of adrenaline are dose-related and include:

dilatation of the bronchi, narrowing of blood vessels, increased heart rate and contractility (positive chronotropic and inotropic effect) and stimulation at central level. Adrenaline is a histamine antagonist. It is used for the treatment of life emergencies.

Adrenaline is used in acute allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock.

It is also used in advanced cardiac life support.
