Avacyn contains the active substance moxifloxacin hyrochloride, which belongs to a group of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Avacyn works by killing bacteria that cause infections. Avacyn film-coated tablets may also be used to complete a course of therapy in patients who have shown improvement during initial treatment with intravenous moxifloxacin for the following indications:
Avacyn tablets should not be used to initiate therapy for any type of infections of the skin and soft tissue or in severe infections of the lungs.
