Spiramicine is a macrolide antibiotic that has similar uses with erythromycin. Macrolides are weak bases; their activity increases at alkaline pH. Macrolides penetrate into the pleural fluid, in the ascitic fluid, in the middle ear exudates and in the sputum. When the meninges are inflamed, they can enter in the cerebrospinal fluid. Macrolides are used in respiratory tract, urogenital, digestive and skin soft tissue infections, especially when beta-lactamic antibiotics or tetracyclines are contraindicated.

Spiramicine is indicated in:

• the treatment of otorhinolaryngological, bronchopulmonary, stomathological, genital (especially of prostate origin), bone and skin infections;
• the prophylaxis of meningitis by meningococcus;
• the cases when rifampicin is contraindicated;
• the toxoplasmosis of old women.

Spirolan contains spironolactone as an active substance which is a diuretic drug (potassium - sparing).

Spirolan is used in:

• primary hyperaldosteronism (excessive production of a mineralocorticoid, aldosterone), if surgery is not indicated;
• accumulation of fluid in tissues and / or abdomen (oedema and / or ascites) in diseases associated with secondary hyperaldosteronism.

Tetracycline acts good on the cause of trachoma (Chlamydia trachomatis).

Tetra 1%, 5 g eye ointment is used:

• to treat superficial bacterial infections of the eye’s cornea and eye conjunctivitis;
• to prevent ophtalmia neonatorum;
• to treat trachoma.

After using tetracycline for a long period of time, resistance to microorganisms may appear.
