Haloperidol, a butyrophenone derivative, is part of the most potent neuroleptic group.
It has a potent antipsychotic effect, doing a good psychomotor and neurovegetative regulation, a good control of the uncoordinated movements. It has also a potent antiemetic effect.
It is indicated in the psychomotor agitation, in mania, deficiency of the nervous system, olygophrenia, acute and chronic schizophrenia, alcoholism; delusions and hallucinations, in paranoia and in acute confusion states; choreiform movements; excitation and senile aggressivity; behavior disorders in children; in tics, stuttering and hiccups; premedication in anaesthesia; prophylaxis of post - operative nausea and vomiting; as a short - term adjuvant treatment in severe anxiety disorders.
