Atropine is a belladonna alkaloid, the prototype of the antimuscarinics and selective competitive antagonist of M-cholinergic receptors.
Atropine is used to produce mydriasis and cycloplegia for ophthalmic examination.
Atropine is also used in the treatment of iritis and uveitis.
